My name is Ernesto Fisher and I live in Holland.

My age: 68 years old. Born in Amsterdam, but now I live in the South-West of Holland.

I have a lot of interest in bagpipes. On the picture I play the gajda from Macedonia.

Every year I visit some countries in East-Europe and the Balkan to meet bagpipers and to make video's.

Ferenc Tobak: Csango Project

This man is Ferenc Tobak. He lives in U.S.A, but was born in Hungary. He has a lot of interest in the Csango bagpipers in Moldavia (Romania). In 1988 he started a project about those bagpipers.

Csango part 6 (last part)

In this last part I'll show a video in which you hear a Hungarian bagpiper plays the tune from the previous blog on a duda.

That duda is tuned in Bes.

Nice to hear the tune and also to see the dancesteps of the tune!

Csango part 5

Mesterke Gergely

The bagpiper right on the photo is Mesterke Gergeley. He lived in Fundu Racaciuni. He has past over.

His bagpipe was a so called Sip. A sip has the same construction as the Hungarian duda, but is tuned higher: tuned in C.

Mesterke Gergely

In the past there have been bagpipers among the Csango.

Ferenc Tobak, a Hungarian bagpiper and bagpipemaker living now in USA, has published information about bagpipers among the Csango.

There were 3 types of bagpipes:

- sip, constructed as the Hugarian duda

- cimpoi, chanter with six holes

- cimpoi, chanter with 8 holes

Csango part 1

In Romania, neigbourhood of town Bacxe3u, live the Csango. Their origine (roots) is Hungarian. On YouTube and via Google you can found a lot of information about them.

There are about 200.000 Csango in the valley of river Siret. 60.000 speak Hungarian. The rest speak Romanian.

A lot of them are integrated in the society of Romania. Most Csango are Roman Catholic.

They has their own dances, music and instruments. Here you see a map where they live in Romania:

In Hungary their music and dances are very beloved.

Every year there is festival of Csango in Jaszbereny, neighbourhood of Budapest.

In the past there lived Csango bagpipers, but they passed over.
